Apple has released iOS 14.5 beta 6 to developers, coming one week after the release of beta 5. IOS 14.5 packs a variety of new features including the ability to unlock your iPhone using Apple Watch. Apple has released the latest version of its Safari browser for the Mac, ahead of the release of macOS Big Sur, later this year. Safari 14 improves the browser’s tabs and adds new customization.

Jin on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8

It appears that Apple have broken some existing Java applications, including Jin, in Mac OS X Lion (10.7). I've built an updated version of Jin that works on Mac OS X, which you can download here. This should also work on Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), but you may need to install Java first.

• Apple in June 2020 introduced the latest version of its iOS operating system, iOS 14, which was released on September 16. IOS 14 is one of Apple's biggest iOS updates to date, introducing Home.
• MacOS Mojave 10.14 can upgrade High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion macOS High Sierra 10.13 can upgrade Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion Safari downloads the following older installers as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg.

9-min Chess for iOS

Unrelated to Jin, check out my new chess app: 9-min Chess. It lets you play a quick 9-minute game of chess against a random opponent right from your iPhone, iPod or iPad. No registration is necessary (but you may choose to log into the Game Center so that your nickname is visible to your opponent).

About Jin

Jin is an open source, cross platform, graphical client for chess servers, written in Java. Jin can run either as a standalone application (available at this website) or as an applet, directly from your browser (available at the chess server's website).

Currently supported servers are the Internet Chess Club and the Free Internet Chess Server. Officially supported platforms are Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, although Jin should work on any operating system with a modern Java Runtime Environment (1.4 or later).
