LumaFusion 2.1 is updated from the previous version, LumaFusion 2.0. It can now collaborate with third-party media drives to import and export to and from SD cards, flash drives and portable HDDs/SSD for easier editing. It was created to be used for corporate purposes by professionals, like journalists, filmmakers, news and corporate video. LumaFusion users, what PC or Mac video editing software do you use in your workflow and how do you use it with LumaFusion? For example, I have used Vegas Pro for 20 years. From the LumaFusion Share / Export menu you can choose “XML Project Package”. Then you can select to export this to a directory of your choice in Files, or AirDrop directly to a Mac on your network. LumaFusion will then prompt you to choose XML Settings. Lumafusion now supports HDR and the latest major feature to be added is support for frame.io – that’s a professional video collaboration service, among other things it will transcode professional formats and allow you to use those proxy files in Lumafusion, then use the FCPX connector to send it across to your Mac and reconnect to the. LumaFusion users, what PC or Mac video editing software do you use in your workflow and how do you use it with LumaFusion?
For example, I have used Vegas Pro for 20 years. I find it robust and feature-full. Since discovering LumaFusion, I find myself using my PC to edit videos a rarity, using LF as much as possible. But it doesn't do everything I'd like it to. Recently I've wanted to experiment with motion graphics/titling, but not much can be done in LF other than basic. I've downloaded some apps but haven't played with them enough and I think the PC/Mac is a much faster/better choice. So I'm thinking of doing title and motion graphics on a PC or Mac and then using them in my LF projects for quick and portable editing.
I recently acquired a MacBook Pro (late 2013 model) and also purchased a DigitalJuice subscription where I can get motion graphics templates. They create them for Adobe After Effect or Apple Motion. As much as I love Vegas Pro and have invested in it, I'm thinking about changing editing suites because of the availability of graphics and plugins for them.
I have a fast desktop PC, which I retired and replaced with a little faster Microsoft Surface Pro 6, and now a little older MacBook Pro. I'm contemplating using the MacBook as my video editing machine because I can seemlessly share files between it and my iPhone and my iPad.
I know, it's a rather long explanation, but I'm wondering if LumaFusion users find working in Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier is easier/better on a Mac with their LumaFusion projects.
Mac or PC?
FCP, Premier, DaVinci Resolve, or Vegas?
For LumaFusion developers, are there plans to offer a MacOS version of the app?

Hi shanezep
I use a Mac - but not for my video editing
I use my iPad Pro exclusively for editing my videos
There will be more integration with FCP in the future
Mac version of LF - nice, I'm sure the developers will look at it - a possibility - unlikely though in my opinion
(never say never)

Hello Shanezep,
Interesting questions you have raised.
Here are some of my thoughts.
First I would think at some point your be able to send your LumaFusion project to Final Cut and continue to edit.
When ?if ? is unknown, just a normal course of evolution within the mind sets of lumatouch.
With “motion graphics/titling” this can be done, I make some examples and show you.
Basics involve key frames and saving your presets.
I save these as projects and file them away on a wifi drive.
I can bring them back into a new project, however I cannot set them into a current project as it is coming in as a archive.
This I like to be addressed one day in the future.
Un like say Final Cut you can work live, or motion what a program it’s endless and renders live on a loop how cool.
After effects nope no render live, but if your using after effects and using key frames then think like that and use in LumaFusion.
Experimenting would make new paths for you and then your become frustrated at first but find work arounds. Like I have.
Re work flow, I had an office now home, flat on the market now, the office became the dinning room.
So kind of forced into using lap top and an iPad, at first I disliked the experience.
They are so many simple methods in a desktop that iOS file system cannot compare.
Like saying do you wish to take a taxi to the airport or go by barge cannel pulled by horses.
Taxi faster, barge cannel pulled by horses slower, however the experiences are more fruitful now a year later.
I do miss the following in iOS and LumaFusion
No audio scrubbing iOS file system is like eating toast which I dropped in sand.
Here is what really made a difference to me.
The office I edit my Paragliding Video’s (that’s my job)
I could not wait to close the door and leave the environment 27 years in its a job.
Other projects like animation and macro filming etc I have to leave for another day.
These are the areas I really love.
Now stuff with a laptop and iPad Pro
I no longer have a big screen or A3 Wacom tablet connected.
But I do take with me a iPad Pro and edit in the park or on the beach, bike over to places and edit.
So easy to pick up and edit, sitting on the plane to japan Editing for the 12 hrs flight, finding new ideas out.
The laptop stays at home, only comes out for audio scrubbing, or share screen astopad so I can edit in after effects over wifi to the iPad.

Example of work flow,
Plug big heavy camera into the laptop.
Drag files across and then send to a wifi drive.
IOS cannot do this unless you wish to tie IOS up in knots.
Too slow.
Laptop job done however 1 gig still requires 5/6 mins to transfer over local area network.
Now on the wifi hard drive I can access the files.
Use file browser as it gives a image preview of RAF files.
Bring this into IOS and edit.
Advantages if you screw up your files on the iOS, you still have the original on the wifi hard drive.
This method fails in movie files as the transfer of gigs is like a the narrow boat being pulled by horses.
Image editing fine and I actually prefer now to edit my images on an tablet environment.
Edited this file in local pub sitting by the fire using their wifi accessing my files at home.

Thank you!
I agree with you, Rob, on the ability to be portable and move anywhere and not be tied to a desk. At my full-time job, I'm tied to a desk all day. At home, while I have a home office, I'd rather be in my back yard during the warm months (and occasionally during the cool months), or out and about. This is why I bought the Surface Pro. I acquired the MacBook Pro after and got a good deal on it because of two reasons; I wanted to learn how to develop apps for iOS and edit with Final Cut Pro. I have yet to use FCP more than checking it out, but use LumaFusion weekly.
On a related workflow note, has anyone used the Western Digital My Passport Wireless drive with LumaFusion?
If so, which one; the standard drive or the SSD drive?
If you've used both, is the SSD that much faster with LumaFusion?
I've got a couple SanDisk iXpand drives that work great for copying files to and fro, but sometimes it's inconvenient to plug in the drive especially while charging the iPad. I was contemplating purchasing the WD My Passport Wireless, but the SSD is quite expensive and for the cost of a 250GB SSD version, I can get the 4TB standard drive and store so much more. My iPad is a 128GB. My next iPad will be larger capacity, but that's down the road a bit.

How do you like the surface pro ?
Plug and play even a USB works wow how cool is that
Apple go bannas over this if everyone just said no listen to what we like please.
But IOS is not to be professional operating system Apple would say.
It is one way the way we like it.
Re SSD drives they work quicker however your talking over wi fi.
Here are some areas that require some thinking through.
Will you be required every time to disconnect from your home wi fi and then connect to the WD?
Think the answer yes, if you plug the WD into the home router and run it through this way, would you maintain the speeds of SSD ?
Think the router slow it down to around 3/4 megs tops 9/11 megs.
Oh and WD only allows the whole clip to be imported, gnar box allows in and outs so you can avoid importing the whole file.
1 gig import around 5 mins
For me disconnecting from the web just so I can scan my footage is none starter, hence I went with a chug along WD my cloud.
4 TB over super slow local area network transfer speeds slower than a tortoise getting out of bed on Sunday. However £116 quid and very very quite not bad, I have also backup when away to the WD drive from hotel rooms etc.
The LumaFusion team use WD drive your referring to and may well answer in much more details.
I also ask on YouTube chit chat and ask some others for real like experiences and let us all know please.
Regards Rob

RE: Surface Pro
I love it. I've been using one since the Pro 3, and have a Pro 4 at work since 2015. I'm a long-time PC person and have done graphic and video work on the PC since the early 1990's. It's only since LumaFusion that I've started to change the way I edit videos on the go. I've used Vegas Pro for many years and after Luma I find it a little clunky. The relatively new way Final Cut X works intrigues me and especially the cost so I'm forcing myself to be more of a Mac person.
I'm using CorelDraw as my graphics tool on my Surface Pro, as well as InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and ACDSee photo management. And now using my MAC and iPad as my video editor. I don't know if I'll be able to do everything on one platform anymore unless someone comes out with a Luma/Final Cut X equivalent for PC.
Sure, people will use Adobe products, and I'm just learning them myself, but Premier is just as clunky as Vegas Pro and the monthly rent is ridiculous. Vegas/Luma/Final Cut/CorelDraw - you buy and can use for as long as you want and aren't shut out if you can't afford the monthly fees.
I also have a WD MyCloud 4TB drive, but it too seems clunky to use. Maybe a gnar box is better to invest in?

Hello Shan,
I’d not get too bogged down in the religion of pc and Mac followers, what works for you is the best solution and produces the better results.
At the end of the day an operating system is just part of the work flow, they are closely followed by programs and apps.
If it helps any, i used Mac and pc quite a lot except the surface pro.
Both OS are good but for me the desk top Os Mac works better in most situations.
For LumaFusion very good, I feel tad let down by iOS it is not flexible for my workflow, I can swap to Final Cut when in audio skimming issues. And transferring of files.
The surface pro pen battery power lasts a whole year !
Not suggesting you do this, however I suspect I may. (I’m told I have a surface pro hand me down)
Frankin Stein the windows OS to a Mac OS, this can be done, but can a windows work with ISO and make use of the USB ports?
The WD 4 TB wifi mycloud your using ?
It work well with desktop OS, but with IOS um files of 25 megs images etc good enough.
Gigs of video its a pig of a work flow to bring into IOS.
Saying that I would do some tests with LumaFusion in WD my cloud bring some files in, i would be interested to know how you get on please.
End of the day IOS is still in the kinder garden arena and work arounds are in the making.
Regards Rob
