Free Up Memory On Firestick

It can be frustrating when you’re binge-watching the latest season of your favorite show and your Amazon Firestick stops working. If you’re seeing the buffering screen a lot, there are a few simple ways to keep your Firestick running like new. Here’s how to stop buffering on your Firestick.

Why Does My Firestick Keep Buffering?

When you stream media, your Amazon Firestick downloads a chunk of content and stores it on your device. If you finish watching the downloaded part of a video before the next part is loaded, this will cause the Firestick to show the buffering icon. The device will stop the video while downloading the next part of the content to update the device.

If you’re experiencing buffering issuesfrequently, it could be caused by any of the following reason:

Go into the Settings in your Fire Stick home screen. Go to the right and click on the System section. Scroll down to find and click on Reset to Factory Defaults. You will be warned with the following message: You are about to reset your Fire TV to its original factory settings. Some applications take up a lot of space yet you do not need them. I wouldn’t recommend having Kodi on your Firestick if you don’t have plenty of storage space on your device. If you’re a new user, Kodi can significantly hinder the performance of your device. This is especially if you don’t have sufficient free space available on your.

  • ISP throttling. Your internet service provider (ISP) might be slowing (throttling) your internet on purpose. ISPs (such as Comcast or Time Warner) regularly scan for particular traffic categories, and they might reduce your download speed if you’re streaming too much content.
  • Hardware limitations. Buffering could be caused by problems with your router, modem, Ethernet cable, or even the Firestick hardware.
  • Remote server malfunctions. The server hosting your video content could be operating at a slower pace or could malfunction.
  • Slow internet connection. Your home internet connection might be too slow to handle video streams.

How to Stop Buffering on Firestick

Now that you know what might be causing your buffering, here are several ways to stop your Firestick from buffering.

Note: Before you change any settings, you should check to see if your WiFi connection is the problem. Even if you have a strong WiFi connection from your router, it doesn’t mean that your Firestick will have a strong connection as well. Restart Your Firestick

If you want to stop your Firestick from buffering, one of the first things you should try is restarting your device. This will normally fix most buffering issues, especially if you keep your device turned on all the time.

  1. Launch your Firestick and select Settings from the top menu. You can access the top menu by clicking the up button (the top of the big circle) on your Firestick remote. Then click the right button (the right side of the big circle) to move to Settings. Finally, click the center of the circle to select Settings.
  2. Then select My Fire TV. You have to click the down button (the bottom of the big circle on your remote) to access the Settings options.

Random Access Memory (RAM) is where your device storesinformation that will be accessed soon. Your Firestick could be running severalprocesses in the background, which could use up a lot of your RAM. Since your Firestickonly has 1-1.5 gigabytes of RAM, it can be used up quickly.

A lot of processes or apps use up your RAM afteryou close them. To remedy this, you can use an app that lets you find and forcequit apps that are running in the background. The app is called Background Appsand Process List, which you can get for free from the Amazon Store. To downloadthis app, follow the steps below:

  2. Then type Background Apps and Process List using the directional pad. You don’t have to type in the whole phrase. The name of the app may appear before you completely type it in.
  3. Select the app and then select Get. To select the app, just press down on the directional pad and hit the button in the center of the big circle.
  4. Next, select Open. This will display a message prompt.
  5. Then select Got It!Then you will see a list of apps that are currently running in the background.
  6. Next, select Close All Apps in the top left corner.
  7. Finally, choose an app and select Force Stop.

When you’re done, pressthe back button on the remote. You can then repeat this process for all the otherapps you want to force close.

Note: Do not close the VPN app you’re using foryour Firestick. The app won’t take up too much RAM while it runs in thebackground. It might also help with your Firestick’s speed.

Install a VPN

If your Firestick seems slower than it should be,your ISP could be throttling your internet connection. Luckily, a good VPN(virtual private network) can stop your ISP from slowing your connection down.A VPN provides you with a fully encrypted network, which might stop yourbuffering issues and give you complete privacy from your ISP at the same time.

Before you install a VPN on your Firestick, you’ll want to use a computer or smartphone to sign up for a service. There arelots of great free and paid options available now. If you don’t know where tostart, check out our list of the best VPN services here.
