Dragon NaturallySpeaking (also known as Dragon for PC, or DNS)[1] is a speech recognition software package developed by Dragon Systems of Newton, Massachusetts, which was acquired first by Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products and later by Nuance Communications. It runs on Windowspersonal computers. Version 15 (Professional Individual and Legal Individual),[2] which supports 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 7, 8 and 10, was released in August 2016.[3][4] The macOS version is called Dragon Professional Individual for Mac, version 6[5] or Dragon for Mac.

Features[edit]

Dragon NaturallySpeaking uses a minimal user interface. As an example, dictated words appear in a floating tooltip as they are spoken (though there is an option to suppress this display to increase speed), and when the speaker pauses, the program transcribes the words into the active window at the location of the cursor. (Dragon does not support dictating to background windows.) The software has three primary areas of functionality: voice recognition in dictation with speech transcribed as written text, recognition of spoken commands, and text-to-speech: speaking text content of a document. Voice profiles can be accessed by different computers in a networked environment, although the audio hardware and configuration must be identical to those of the machine generating the configuration. The Professional version allows creation of custom commands to control programs or functions not built into NaturallySpeaking.

History[edit]

Dr. James Baker laid out the description of a speech understanding system called DRAGON in 1975.[6] In 1982 he and Dr. Janet M. Baker, his wife, founded Dragon Systems to release products centered around their voice recognition prototype.[7] He was President of the company and she was CEO.

DragonDictate was first released for DOS, and utilized hidden Markov models, a probabilistic method for temporal pattern recognition. At the time, the hardware was not powerful enough to address the problem of word segmentation, and DragonDictate was unable to determine the boundaries of words during continuous speech input. Users were forced to enunciate one word at a time, clearly separated by a small pause after each word. DragonDictate was based on a trigram model, and is known as a discrete utterance speech recognition engine.[8]

Dragon Systems released NaturallySpeaking 1.0 as their first continuous dictation product in 1997.[9]

Joel Gould was the director of emerging technologies at Dragon Systems. Gould was the principal architect and lead engineer for the development of Dragon NaturallyOrganized (1.0), Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer (3.52), Dragon NaturallySpeaking (1.0 through 2.02), and DragonDictate for Windows (1.0). Gould also designed the tutorials in both DragonDictate for DOS version 2.0 and Dragon Talk.[citation needed]

The company was then purchased in June 2000 by Lernout & Hauspie, a Belgium-based corporation that was subsequently found to have been perpetrating financial fraud.[10] Following the all-share deal advised by Goldman Sachs, Lernout & Hauspie declared bankruptcy in November 2000. The deal was not originally supposed to be all stock and the unavailability of the Goldman Sachs team to advise concerning the change in terms was one of the grounds of the Bakers' subsequent lawsuit. The Bakers had received stock worth hundreds of millions of US dollars, but were only able to sell a few million dollars' worth before the stock lost all its value as a result of the accounting fraud. The Bakers sued Goldman Sachs for negligence, intentional misrepresentation and breach of fiduciary duty, which in January 2013 led to a 23-day trial in Boston. The jury cleared Goldman Sachs of all charges.[11] Following the bankruptcy of Lernout & Hauspie, the rights to the Dragon product line were acquired by ScanSoft of Burlington, Massachusetts, also a Goldman Sachs client. In 2005 ScanSoft launched a de facto acquisition of Nuance Communications, and rebranded itself as Nuance.[12]

As of 2012 LG Smart TVs include voice recognition feature powered by the same speech engine as Dragon NaturallySpeaking.[13]

Documentation enhancements

Madhubala ek ishq ek junoon download. The Help content on Accuracy Tuning has been improved to better explain the importance and benefits of performing Accuracy Tuning.

General enhancements

Optional Google Analytics usage data collection

Previously, Dragon's optional Data Collection feature sent transcripts and audio data from your Dragon user profiles to Nuance through a scheduled task. In this release, audio data collection has been discontinued, and usage data is collected using Google Analytics.

Enabling the User Experience Collection feature collects Google Analytics metrics on how you use Dragon. Our researchers analyze the anonymized data to prioritize features and improve the performance and usability of future Dragon releases. This also leads to improved technical support and online help. No personal information is ever collected, and you can stop participating at any time.

If enabled, metrics are collected continually. As a result, the option to configure the scheduled task for Data Collection has been removed from the Administrative Settings>Scheduled Tasks tab.

You can opt in or out of User Experience Collection when you create your user profile, or at any time later on the Options dialog box—Data page. You can also enable User Experience Collection for all user profiles in the Administrative Settings dialog box—Scheduled Tasks tab.

For more information, see About User Experience Collection.

SummaryDescription

Dragon may not respond to MouseGrid commands

When you dictate a MouseGrid command, Dragon may not respond to the command if you dictate the sequence of numbers quickly.

Several NLP commands not working correctly in Microsoft Office version 2019

Some NLP commands do not work in Microsoft Word version 2019. For example, 'Send an Email' or 'Send Document as Email'.

Learn from specific documents not working with Google Docs

When you select the Add Google Docs option in Learn from sent emails and attempt to sign in with your Google credentials, sign in error occurs.

Correction menu and disambiguation markers appear smaller when using 3840 x 2160 resolution

When you are using a monitor that supports high resolution like 3840 x 2160 and you say 'Correct <word>' in Microsoft Word, the Correction menu and disambiguation markers appear significantly smaller.

Accuracy Tuning window appears repeatedly after exiting Dragon and an abnormal termination might occur when running accuracy tuning.

When you launch Accuracy Tuning, the window can appear repeatedly after you exit and re-launch Dragon. This occurs only on 32-bit systems.

We do not recommend running ACO/LMO in this case, because it may result in an application crash when running accuracy tuning.

Application termination can occur when running Accuracy Tuning

On rare occasions, Dragon can terminate unexpectedly when you run Accuracy Tuning.

Workaround: Do not run acoustic optimization and language model optimization if you are using a 32-bit computer running Windows 7 or 10.

Check Dragon SDK applications

Prior to version 15.5, user profiles were located in the ProgramData folder. In version 15.5 and 15.6, user profiles are located in the %AppData% folder to ensure that user profile data remains secure and access is restricted to the user or to an administrator.

If you are using Dragon as a run-time with any Dragon SDK applications you have created:

  • The Open User Profile dialog box shows user profiles in the following locations:
    • C:ProgramDataNuanceNaturallySpeaking15Users (profiles created before v15.5)
    • UsersUsernameAppdataLocalNuanceNS15Users (profiles created or migrated to v15.5 in %LocalAppdata%)
  • SDK requests for a list of speakers will show only the profiles in the new location (%LocalAppdata%).
  • Profiles in the legacy ProgramData location are not listed when SDK applications request a list of Speakers unless the SDK application explicitly changes the profile folder location to the legacy folder in SDK application.
  • Profiles opened through the SDK will not automatically move to the new location.
  • To view profiles located in both the legacy and new locations, SDK applications need to check both locations to show the aggregated list.
